About

Kristen Mansfield graduated from Alfred University in 2015 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, focusing mainly in sculpture, painting and metal fabrication. After leaving Alfred she began taking classes at SUNY Broome, continuing to explore many different facets of artmaking and career options. After switching her degree to Liberal Arts and Sciences Kristen graduated from SUNY Broome in 2020. She ultimately plans to pursue a life of farming and is currently self-studying mycology during quarantine at her home in Syracuse, New York.

In addition to growing mushrooms, Kristen is also trying to reimagine her art practice outside of the studio. Her focus has shifted more towards two-dimensional methods of creating, using supplies that are widely available. The artworks included are a part of a series of studies that draw inspiration from the Japanese art form known as Notan. Through the use of negative space these pieces explore darkness and light, absence and fullness, during a time when a balance of these things has been hard to find.

Some of the works displayed on this website are for sale. Please contact the artist for further information.
